How to add initials to PDF pages in Chrome

Place initials where the document requests them and check each page. Use text for typed initials or the drawing tool when a handwritten mark is requested.

To add initials to a PDF in Chrome, open the document in Sign PDF and place a text entry or drawn mark in each field that requests it. Navigate through the pages, then download and reopen the edited copy to check every entry.

Read the instructions beside each field first. An initials box and a full signature line request different entries. Follow the document's requested format rather than putting the same mark everywhere.

Map the places that need initials

Read through the PDF before adding anything. Note which pages have an initials box and whether the document also asks for a printed name, date or signature elsewhere.

For example, a three-page worksheet might request initials in a box on pages one and two, then a full signature on page three. Treat that as an illustrative layout, not a rule that applies to other documents. A PDF with four pages does not necessarily request four identical entries.

Use the PDF's page position when keeping track, especially if the printed page numbers differ from the viewer's count. Check the field label on the page you are editing rather than relying only on your note.

Choose typed or drawn initials

When the instructions request typed initials, add the letters as a text entry. When they request a handwritten mark, use the drawing tool if it fits the requested process. Check with the recipient if the required format is unclear.

The Sign PDF listing documents adding text, drawing on the PDF, uploading a signature image, navigating pages, zooming and undoing a recent change. It does not document an initials stamp that repeats across every page automatically.

Place and review each requested entry individually. Check the space on every page: a mark that fits one lower corner may cover text on the next page.

Place the entries in Sign PDF

Use the extension's documented local-file workflow:

  1. Open Sign PDF from Chrome's toolbar and drop in the PDF or choose Select Files.
  2. Go to the first page that requests initials. Zoom enough to read the label and see the available space.
  3. Add the requested text or draw the mark within that space. Keep it clear of printed words and neighboring fields.
  4. Move to the next requested page and add its entry separately.
  5. Review your placements. Use Undo for an unwanted recent change, then place the entry again.
  6. Choose Download when the requested pages are complete.

The extension's listing describes local processing for files on your computer. Opening a PDF from an online link also requires access to the link.

Review the fields individually

Go through the document in page order. Look for missing initials, marks in the wrong person's field and entries that cover a label. Check repeated fields even when they look similar.

An initials field might sit beside a separate date or signature field. Complete each only as requested. For those other entries, see adding a name and date or drawing a signature.

Keep the original PDF so you can restart if necessary. Placing initials on the page adds a visible mark; it does not prove the recipient accepts that method. If the recipient requires a specific signing service or a certificate-based process, use the requested workflow.

Check the downloaded copy

Open the file you just downloaded and inspect every page that needed an entry. Confirm that the marks appear at the expected size and location, and that you saved the complete document.

Give this copy a clear filename. Before attaching it, check that you selected the edited PDF rather than the blank original. Keep your page notes until the final check is finished so you can compare the output with the fields you identified at the start.
