How to fill and sign a scanned PDF in Chrome
A scanned form can need text and a signature placed over the page, even when its printed boxes are not interactive.

A scanned PDF may look like a form without having fields you can click and type into. To complete it, use a tool that places text and a visible signature over the page. Start with a readable PDF scan, check that it opens in the tool, and review the downloaded copy before sending it.
If you need to change the scan's printed wording or create reusable interactive fields, that is a different task. Adding your name or a signature does not rebuild the original form.
Check the scan before adding anything
Open the PDF and inspect every required page. Check that the instructions, blank spaces and signature line are legible. If a page is missing, cropped or too blurred to read, obtain a better scan first.
Click a blank area where the form expects an answer. If it does not offer an input field, you may be looking at a flat form. Adobe describes flat forms as scanned paper forms or PDFs without interactive fields; its Fill & Sign workflow adds text or signatures to them.
Keep a copy of the untouched scan. If you received individual image files rather than a PDF, first create the PDF with a tool that supports those images. Sign PDF's documented input is PDF.
Decide what the finished copy must contain
Read the document's instructions and check the requested signing method. A drawn or uploaded signature is a visible electronic signature. Sign PDF's store description distinguishes that mark from a certificate-based digital signature.
For a form that requests a name, date and visible signature, make a short checklist of the fields and pages to complete. If it requires a certificate or a particular signing service, use that requested route rather than treating an image as a substitute.
Add text and a signature to the PDF
The Sign PDF listing describes opening PDFs with Select Files or drag and drop, adding text, and drawing or uploading a signature. Try your scan in the extension before planning the rest of the work. Its listing does not guarantee that every protected or damaged PDF will open.
- Open the PDF and go to the page you need.
- Use the text tool for your name, date or other required answer. Place each entry in the appropriate blank area.
- Draw a signature, or upload an image of your signature and resize it to fit.
- Check that the added marks leave the printed labels and instructions readable.
- Inspect the other pages and use undo if an entry lands incorrectly.
- Select Download to save the edited PDF.
For drawing controls, use the drawn signature guide. For an existing signature image, see adding a signature image. The preparation above addresses the separate problem of a scanned form with no interactive fields.
Review the saved copy in a PDF reader
Reopen the downloaded file outside the editing view. Look at each completed area at normal reading size and zoom in where the scan is unclear. A mark that appears to fit while zoomed out may cover part of a label when inspected closely.
Check the page count against the original, read the entered text, and confirm that the signature is on the correct line. Keep the original scan and the edited copy under distinguishable names.
Adding text and a signature does not establish OCR, searchable scanned text, interactive form fields or a digital certificate. Use a separate tool if you need one of those results. The finished file for this workflow is a PDF with the visible additions you reviewed.
